This time of the year doesn’t have to be all about consumerism and buying crazy amounts of chocolate and the most beautiful bouquet of roses and expensive jewellery and dining at the latest on trend restaraunt etc. Don’t get me wrong, those things are lovely and it makes one feel ultra special, but I just as equally, if not more, love the simple things in life eg. Spending time with my loved one, having a picnic and watching romcom DVDs :) Plus you can always do any of that other stuff any time of the year if you wanted to :p
Valentine’s Day is not just for couples, whether married, partnered or just newly dating. You can just as well make it an event with all your single friends and dress in various theme colours eg. Red/pink/white and make heart shaped cookies and pink strawberry smoothies etc. the possibilities are endless.
DIY Valentines Day Gift
I would love to share one of my favourite things that I have ever gifted. I made this for my partner last Valentine’s Day to show him how amazing he really is. I had seen these little “52 things I love about you” booklets on Pinterest, which is where I got this idea to make something special and personalised, one of a kind. It won’t disappear like chocolate and flowers and it can be looked back on if you need some mood brightening after a crazy day at work etc. You can even change the “love” to “like” and make it for a best friend :)
It’s quite easy to make, and quite fun if you’re into your arts and crafts. All you need is:
- A deck of cards. I used these large size ones I found at a local bargain shop.
- Some nice paper/card to cover the 2 Jokers to make the front and back covers.
- Some nice paper to stick on the middle of the cards on which you’ll write your lovely things
- pens of your choice
- the list of 52 things you want to put in there, they can be anything as simple as “you always make me smile” or more personalised like something you both enjoy e.g.. “you share my love for ____”
- hole punch
- loose ring binders/keyring rings
Just put it all together, it’s so easy i don’t think a step by step is even necessary, basically get the individual cards all done, then hole punch then thread through the rings. Voila! Instant (well not quite haha) personalised gift made with LOVE!
Here’s a quick mini video of the one I made:
